Wendy Ellis

Dr. Wendy Ellis, Director of the Center for Community Resilience and GWSPH faculty member, was recently appointed to two advisory committees.

Selected for a three-year appointment by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, Dr. Ellis will serve on the Board of Scientific Counselors for CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC). This federal advisory committee advises the Secretary, the CDC Director and the NCIPC Director regarding surveillance, basic epidemiologic research, intervention research, and implementation, dissemination, and evaluation of promising and evidence-based strategies for the prevention of injury and violence. Alongside other committee members, Dr. Ellis will make recommendations regarding policies, strategies, objectives, projects, and priorities related to injury and violence prevention.

Dr. Ellis has also been added to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Culture of Health Program (CoHP) Advisory Committee. Established in 2015, the NAM CoHP, funded by RWJF, is a multiyear collaborative effort to identify strategies to create and sustain conditions that support equitable good health for everyone in America. During her two-year appointment, Dr. Ellis will provide strategic guidance to ensure the program meets its intended aims.

These appointments are a reflection of Dr. Ellis’ leadership in addressing the root causes of childhood trauma, fostering equity, and building community resilience.
